ZOOOOM 2041!

Dear Henry, (yes that is my notebook’s name!)
Today is August 27th, 2041. It’s a memorable day indeed, since I turned eighteen today and it’s the first day of college!! I started my day off with robobuddy waking me up! He censored off with playing dubstep mixed with techno.  Afterwards, he propped right up onto my shoulder to lead me to the kitchen. I was wondering what all the commotion was about, but robobuddy said it was a surprise! He had made me breakfast: fruit loops with OJ (just the way I like it). Then, I and robobuddy go through all the goals I need to check off for the day and simultaneously tap the touch screen panel on the wall that lights up and plays the local news and headlines. From there, I slip on an outfit and grab my MEGA 2000(a digital device that has everything all compact into a pad). Everything is accessible through codes and finger print readers. I start my car up and head to FGCU. It’s funny how fast vehicles have transformed; they are operated by the tone of your voice and solar powered. While on campus, there are rebooting stations that are intended for recharging electron devices.  As I am walking to the library, I communicate with Neel (a friend) through hologram. We discuss what we plan on doing later that day with Lisa, we are a trio pack. We were thinking about going to the BOX, a music store that has all the latest streaming videos and tracks. Garbage bags seems to be the new “in” on fashion, maybe lady gaga had something to do with it? I’m not a person who joins the band wagon, so I’ll stick to my own swag. Food in the present is legit. They have all vitamins in liquid now, at your desired taste. I pick bubblegum flavor for my omega 3’s and iron. At the bookstore, I pick up a purplelicious plum and zesty water and charge it on my card (it’s universal, used on all my spending). Then I head to class, where 75% is hybrid and done virtually and the other 25% is done by the t main. (new word for teacher.) After that, I call it a day. So, I input my headphones onto my MEGA 2000 and blast the volume up while greeting my friends with our dance routine. It’s common to dance to express emotions now. This generation has kicked it to the next level.  Once home, robobuddy and I reunite. He reads my face and says: “awesome day?” I reply: “yeah bud.”Then we watch cartoons until we KO.

Epic Skunk Man!

What I gathered from the tutorial was that the skunk ape indeed has scientific evidence for the speculative science of cryptozoology. This made me want to badly go on a legitimate sasquatch hunt! Sure, it’s rather weird to have a curiosity for an unnatural species, but I would enjoy taking part in this scary and adventurous journey to experience the adrenaline!

Enough with my rambling, the skunk ape tutorial is a positive tool that helps aid students link general ideas into more advanced researching methods and link useful resources together to complete a task. The tutorial was subdivided into four different modules that were interactive and hands on, so it would be effective. The part I really enjoyed was module three, about the different types of mediums that can be used; such as: articles, books, e-books, journals, movies/DVD’s, and newspapers. I am not the tech savvy kid, but the tutorial did help me navigate through the library catalog and databases to help identify what are the important links and content to cover, so I could manage to find needed information. I knew some basic hints from Mrs. MLE herself, from the summer term. I remember how she gave a brief synopsis about the library services, and how it is located on the FGCU’s website.

What I need to know about basic research is to be capable of identifying what a scholarly journal is, or a peer review article. For instance, a majority of college professors teach text based material and if they were to assign a paper, I would need to find an appropriate reliable source that has accurate factual data.

Three things I did NOT know before the tutorial:

1.      How a skunk ape looked like:

2.      That all advertising in non-factual media is written in subtle words (easy reading)

3.      That this tutorial is required to take for composition courses

Three things I DID know before the tutorial:

1.      In order to check out a book, you must step into the library!

2.      The library services website is located on the FGCU’s homepage

3.      The difference between popular vs. factual data information

THE BIG FIVE!!

Hi mates,

This blog entry had me stumped; but on the contrary, I did come up with MY BIG FIVE FOR LIFE!

1.       1. Sky dive
2.       2. Own ten cows
3.       3. Successfully becoming a biomedical engineer and working with a pharmaceutical company after completing med school.
4.       4. Raise attention about bullying
5.       5. Ultimately having a family of my own!

I agree my top two are random as it gets, but it is listed from
ascending order.

This is what I would consider a success in my life!

If you haven’t realized my own theories I post in every blog, here is my theory to our big five:

My theory for reaching a destined goal is being the one willing to share our knowledge to others, so they can help us lead the way.” (Elisa 2011)

Firstly, hypothetically speaking, who wouldn’t be daring enough to sky dive? It has been one of my goals I’ve always wanted to check off in my inner conscience. One side of me is screaming “DO ITTTT!” and the other says “NOOO! Look at all the wrong possibilities that could happen.” Either way, I am going to go with my gut feeling and go skydiving sometime soon. It’s just one of those pumped up adrenaline situations that I have to experience before I know what I may or may not be missing out on.

About owning ten cows, there’s a story to that. Growing up near the Buckingham area, located in East Fort Myers, is where you experience the backside of the country. My house particularly is not exactly off of the interstate, but near there. I have cows living literally behind my house. Well, they are free to roam on their countless acres of land, but they always find a way to be close to me. C’mon cows are awesome! They are genuine animals that are capable of caring. For example, when a storm is about to come down, they moo to call out to their calves and herd up into a circle and let the baby calves in the middle. It’s a weird phenomenon how they know to shelter the young ones, as if there is a predator lurking. Any who, I will have ten cows in my future.

Alright were getting to the good stuff, my career. I plan on completing my undergraduate studies by majoring in biomedical engineering. I may sound crazy since that will require a lot of math and science, but being part of the Step Ahead Program made me realize if I could pass the CPT, then anything else that comes along my pathway is definitely accomplishable. I think of myself as a person who just needs a little more time to complete a goal. I will in all my efforts go to medical school and work with a pharmaceutical company. This is where I see myself in a happy setting doing hands on learning to provide better healthcare.

Another goal of mines is to raise a program that gains awareness about bullying. Who hasn’t witnessed or been a victim of bullying? Whether, it is on school grounds, cyberspace, in writing format, or physical, verbal, and mental terms. I would like to make an impact on children’s lives, especially speaking in elementary schools of the consequences of treating someone differently.
I want to experience that setting that would gain an understanding of any kids mind that harassing someone is not the right thing to do and to get involved if someone they know is being bullied and to speak out and alert an adult if things are going out of hand. This is what would make me feel accomplished.

Ultimately, the last and foremost thing to ever happen is a having a family. I am unsure of my ideal family, I mean no one can plan and have everything they ever want. Though, I will take in consideration marrying a man who is definitely TALLER than me! Something cheesy that I want to happen is him saying a funny remark like “you can fit right in my pocket and I can take you everywhere with me.” We all want different desires, but in all honesty, I just want a man who can make me smile even on my toughest days. As for kids, I do not have a specific amount of kids that I plan on creating; even having just one is a miracle in itself.

Yes, if everything stated comes to realty, my life would be a success.

As life goes on, I do not see my BIG FIVE changing anytime soon.

Any factors that may cause me to re-evaluate my BIG FIVE would be my death. I plan on living up to my goals and making them a reality and not a dream.

After all, we can only blame ourselves to be guilty of the mad HOW disease according to John P. Strelecky’s words.

Should I be poppin’ pills?

A question that always raises attention to me is if taking medications really beneficial?
I mean we ingest them and hope for some type of treatment to magically happen. My interpretation for this theory would be our minds work to make us feel better about our bodies being alleviated after consuming these tablets. Whereas the brain works as the operator signaling brain wave activity to the central nervous system and telling the nerve fibers to relax the tension in our muscles. I am not a 100% sure about what I’ve stated, but the average person does not really know what they are ingesting. Yes, there are active ingredients shown on a typical box of any prescription or OTC drugs, though does one take the time to research what they do or what their made of? Normally a person would usually go ahead and pick up what they think is best to target their inconvenience, so it can go away.
Another factor that is negative would be “warning labels”. They make me seems a little shaky because I know little about any product and what is even worse it that I have to squint my eyes in order to read the TINY print that appears on the bottom of a box. Personally, what makes it seem funnier is that companies emphasize the “warning label” by highlighting them in red ink in order for a buyer to not misread information before consumption. Maybe I am being too technical, but my opinion is they do it for their benefit in order to not get law suited.
My idea of medications is unethical, since not everyone would argue along the same lines as do I and if whether or not any lab animals were hurt in the making of any drug products.

EC Blog (true geen)

The changes I promised myself from the previous blog were to improve on mobility. I challenged myself to car pool more frequently and to ride the transit. Honestly, I can say that the better side of the bargain was carpooling. My sister would drop me off on campus and pick me up after work, so this was something that we could manage together. Catching the bus was a difficult option I tried once, and I ended up late to class because I had missed the times! Least to say, I live around 35 minutes away from school and I could not afford to miss class.
A way that I can make a difference to the environment would be to join the recycling club at FGCU. It is pretty awesome how better a person feels after placing a water bottle into the recycling bin; instead of the trash can and knowing they’ve just made a difference. So being part of an organization that benefits the university would be top notch. Also with that being said, a friendly way to show how I am continuing the “green revolution” is using those reusable eco-friendly bags they offer about at every super market available. It is a good option I’ve invested on, since it does not require further plastics bags to be used up on groceries or other necessities. Besides, they are around dollar, and it is simple and compact to take about anywhere.

VIEWER DESCRESSION IS ADVISED

If you haven’t come across the Head On commercial that has played on television before, be well advised it’s ANNOYING! From my perspective, it’s a woman who rubs what appears to be a glue stick across her forehead. The commercial itself is not very informative, besides the repetitive slogan “Head On: Apply directly to the forehead.” I find it funny how they emphasize an arrow pointing towards the forehead, as if it is not already stated. In my opinion, it is a bad commercial that makes me want to throw my TV out the window, instead of buying their product.
Thesis:
Head on is an ointment you evidently apply directly to your forehead. For what, I can’t exactly say. Watch the video. I guarantee you won’t forget how to apply it.
Audience:
Head On is aimed to anyone who is experiencing minor headaches.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Head On is to grab individuals into purchasing their product that claims “fast, safe, effect” relief from headaches.

IF YOU HAVE TIME TO SPARE, I WOULD LEGIT CHECK OUT THE VIDEO BELOW! IT'S A PARODY.

It's a GREEN revolution ahead...

My results indicated that my footprint would need 3.8 earths, and 16.9 global acres to support my lifestyle. That made me look at a new prospective: destruction. A foot print is the amount of resources a person consumes, and without seeing the big picture, we take it for granted and what we take in lessens our natural environment. Earth, our home, is being further abused by the industrial world, and an increased level of pollution appears on a regular basis; whether it being from gas guzzlers to garbage in local waters. A way we can sustain our planet can be to recycle and take in consideration of our actions we leave behind. From past experience, I chosen to ride the local transit here in Fort Myers to school, and it wasn’t bad. I mean, yeah there were weird characters I would ride with, but it was interesting to interact with people of different backgrounds. That and I yet could afford to buy my own car, least to say pay for gas! Though, now I have a vehicle, so I’ve stopped riding the bus, and I miss it! So the changes I would make for the planet to be more eco-friendly is mobility, this was the biggest target on my personal pie chart. I am going to challenge myself to carpool or catch the bus to local areas, though not for school, that would be nearly impossible. It helps me know that there are better outcomes for both me and the world! Who knows how much of a difference it would make, and if it means to walk a little further to a transit stop to be GREEN :)!

Assignment 2

I am outside, in the cool damp weather, here alongside the inner yard of my aunt’s house. A short rainfall has just past by and I am heading over to the vines right on the fence. First, what I come across is the neighbors miniature dogs, is this really what I should write about, not so much. They are adorable, but not what to focus on at the moment. So, I take in  the utter silence of nature, and look even closer and capture what to be my main objective a caterpillar. I wonder, do I really see them around rarely anywhere? Not exactly, but this is a first and I am up for a new insight. Looking at it from its natural state, I see the cool colors it wears, all black and with orange blotches. Is it poisonous? Harmless? What I do next, is gently put my fingers along its back, its cold and motionless. Maybe from its perspective, it’s like, “who is that? Will it harm me? Its curious eyes keep glancing back at me, should I do tricks and entertain it, or keep it safe and act as if I’m invisible and keep still?" From my knowledge about caterpillars, is they have two ends, weird. Though, they are the ones who leave little nibbles on plants. Like little ninjas that are in disguise and ready to be camouflaged. Nature itself is a big question mark. Do these little fellows, use leaves to act like boats to cross big puddles of water? This would be quite an adventure to experience. How do insects in general live? Do they talk to one another when they come across path, and say “Hey, how’s it going?” Like humans do. Or do a courteous smile, if it’s even possible. So many questions, yet few answered. This is what I consider the circle of life, and what we have more to learn about.

About Me

Hello everyone.
My name is Elisa, and I may be a quirky person, when we first meet off. Since this whole college experience had me a little shaky. But people, usually consider me a person who is sweet like a sugary little peep, and a person with a sense of humor. Why you may consider studying here at FGCU? Well, first off, I’ve been raised here in Fort Myers, FL my whole life. To me, it’s a great area to be settled into; there are lots to do here. I volunteer at the local YMCA, and help out during summer camp! A thing to note about kids: have patience!  Also, I work part-time at Subway. As for commuting to campus, that will kick me in the butt, though I doubt it will be that bad. I come from a Latino background, so I love Soccer! It’s a universal game and my main favorite soccer players are: RONALDO, MESSI, KAKA, and VILLA! Where are my soccer fans/players at? A top song on mines is: Waka Waka from Shakira and Wavin’ flag by K’naan. On my free time, I enjoy painting! My greatest inspiration is Pablo Picasso. I have two pets: a dog and a cat. I adopted both from a rescue shelter. There’s Lobo, a black Lab, and Michi my cat. A random fact about me is that I picked my major as Bioengineering from taking physics class back in high school. A cool former teacher of mines, Dr. Klein, is a brilliant guy and he left off to me in a quote: “Let the force be with you, all throughout college!” Pretty cheesy, but very reassuring and confident to take with me. Science and me have always gotten along, though I’m not sure what is to come ahead, but I am ready for the challenge! So, that is pretty much sums it up, I cannot wait to meet my fellow classmates!
